Oscar Adrian Pico and Christopher Luigi Stefani met by chance in January 2020 when Chris traveled to Austin for a conference. What began as an unexpected introduction quickly turned into an easy, natural connection. They spent that first weekend together before Chris returned home to Detroit, leaving Oscar in Austin, but the distance did little to slow the momentum. From the start, things clicked—not only between the two of them, but also with Oscar’s close circle of friends—setting the tone for a relationship grounded in comfort, humor, and shared energy. Before long, Oscar invited Chris back to Austin for Valentine’s Day, and Chris didn’t hesitate. That February visit confirmed what they both already suspected, and they agreed it was worth seeing where things could go next.
Chris returned to Austin again in March, with plans already in motion for Oscar to visit Detroit the following month to meet Chris’ friends and family. That March weekend coincided with the early days of COVID, and like much of the world, their plans shifted abruptly. Rather than separating, they chose to navigate the uncertainty together. Chris remained in Austin with Oscar through the end of June 2020, and in August the distance reversed, with Oscar spending several months in Detroit—deepening relationships with Chris’ family and friends and further blending their lives across cities.
As their relationship continued to evolve, the couple reached a major milestone in November 2021, taking a leap of faith by purchasing their first home together in Port Austin, Michigan. It was a place they had grown to love as a couple, and the home became a tangible commitment to building a shared life. Over time, Port Austin took on a central role—not only as their first home together, but as a welcoming homestead for friends and family. It became the setting for milestone moments such as Oscar’s 40th birthday, annual Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, and countless gatherings that reflected how important community is to both of them.
What followed were years of thoughtful balance—managing travel, schedules, and responsibilities while continuing to prioritize time together. Along the way, they built a life defined by shared adventures, strong ties to family and friends, and an ongoing ability to make each other laugh. In October 2024, Oscar proposed, marking the next chapter in a partnership shaped by commitment, resilience, and shared experiences.
Because of the meaningful role Port Austin has played in their lives, it became the natural place to bring everyone together once again. Today, as they prepare to celebrate their wedding, they return to the place that has long served as their home base—surrounded by the people, memories, and community that have been part of their story from the very beginning.
